Driving Integration

The new integrated logistics ecosystem

STR Automotive join the event Driving Integration

On September 10, 2025, at the Florim Gallery (Fiorano Modenese – MO), the official inauguration of DSV Proximity was held — the new integrated logistics hub designed to serve customers with highly efficient solutions, within which STR Automotive plays a leading role. The event brought together representatives from the industrial and institutional sectors, creating an opportunity to discuss integrated logistics, urban regeneration, and the transformation of production models. Among the speakers was Massimo Cecchini, CEO of STR Automotive.

Complete guest list:

  • Davide Uracchi, managing director - DSV Contract Logistics;
  • Maciej Walenda, CEO Europe - DSV Contract Logistics;
  • Valentino Chiarparin, Country Manager - GSE Italia;
  • Massimo Cecchini, CEO - STR Automotive;
  • Andrea Pontremoli, CEO - Dallara.

Efficiency, sustainability, and innovation

The hub covers a total area of 100,000 m² and was developed through a major redevelopment project of a former industrial site, with the goal of enhancing a strategic node within the Modena region. The logistics units that make up the hub are three in total and, to optimize inbound and outbound flows, they will be interconnected by a bridge. The project, compliant with the most advanced ESG standards, will be submitted for BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) “Very Good” certification, a sustainability assessment protocol for buildings.

The new hub consolidates activities that were previously distributed across ten separate warehouses into three logistics assets, defining a new operational architecture that is more streamlined, integrated, and high value–added. This reconfiguration increases the available operational space by 15% and significantly reduces logistical complexity. Overall operation times are reduced by 45%, with a drastic reduction in the daily kilometres travelled (–45.7%) and a 33.3% decrease in the number of vehicles in circulation.

The result is a tangible impact on flow optimization, process agility, and the overall efficiency of the supply chain.

Customer-Proximity Logistics and Added Value

The new STR and DSV hub introduces new efficiency levers thanks to advanced services such as pre-assembly, quality control, product finalization, and integrated management with strategic suppliers.

“In one of the warehouses already in operation, staff from some proximity suppliers work directly inside our site, in close contact with the customer’s logistics flows. A physical and digital integration that enables optimized lead times, reduced unnecessary handling, and increased responsiveness of industrial processes,” says Davide Uracchi, Managing Director of DSV.

STR Automotive began in 2019 with the goal of bringing its operations closer to the destination — the customer. At the beginning of 2020, it suspended activities related to settling into a new site due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. In 2023, it found in DSV the ideal partner to move forward, and starting from January 7, 2025, the first industrial operations began at the shared facility in the Fiorano district, in the heart of the Motor Valley.

This solution offers advantages in responsiveness and simplification:

“The paradox we can use to describe this type of activity is that we have gained benefits by removing transportation for a logistics operator — which seems like a real contradiction. In reality, we shifted the costs we were using to burn fuel to instead create added value through a location closer to the customer,” adds Massimo Cecchini, CEO & Managing Director of STR Automotive.
